ChatGPT answers with charts, forms and calculators: what Intelligent UI is and how to check such answers

Short answer: on October 7, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out the GPT-6 model in ChatGPT together with the Intelligent UI feature. ChatGPT now decides for itself how to answer: with ordinary text or with an interface right in the conversation. This can be a diagram with buttons, a chart, a form or a small tool such as a calculator that you can use straight away. Paid plans started getting the feature on October 7, and the free plan and the Go plan, according to OpenAI's plan, from October 8. For a small company, this is a convenient way to quickly get a plan, a comparison or a rough estimate in which you can change the numbers. But the calculator is built by the model, and OpenAI itself writes that its design decisions still need work, so any calculation is worth checking on numbers with a known answer. And a limitation for Russia: it is not on the list of countries from which OpenAI supports access to ChatGPT. Below is what exactly was released, how it works, where it can help, how to check it and what the situation is with availability.

What OpenAI released

Everything in this section is taken from OpenAI's announcement of October 7, 2026.

Intelligent UI is ChatGPT's ability to build an answer from text, images and interactive elements: charts, tappable buttons, forms, diagrams. The model decides what the answer will look like based on the question. A comparison may come out as options laid out side by side, an explanation as an interactive diagram, and if plain text is the most useful, ChatGPT will answer with text.

OpenAI showed several examples.

  • A plan. A request for a plan for a Sunday dinner for guests, whose number is not yet known, turns into a menu, a guest counter with "plus" and "minus" buttons that recalculates the shopping list by itself, and a step-by-step cooking schedule.
  • An explanation. A seven-speed bicycle is shown in a diagram where buttons highlight the frame, wheels, brakes and gears.
  • A tool on request. You can ask for a savings growth calculator, a bill splitter for friends or a simple game, and ChatGPT will build it right in the answer.

For whom and when:

  • On October 7, GPT-6 with Intelligent UI started rolling out to the Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise plans in the chat tab. From October 8, according to OpenAI's plan, the rollout expands to the free plan and the Go plan.
  • Paid plans get the GPT-6 Sol model, the free and Go plans get GPT-6 Luna; both are tuned for everyday conversation.
  • On the Enterprise plan, availability depends on the company administrator's settings.
  • The update applies only to chat. The models behind the Work and Codex modes are not changing in this release.

How it works

As OpenAI describes it, the company built a library of ready-made interface elements and a compiler program that assembles the interface as the model generates it. That is why the interface appears piece by piece, without waiting for the end of the answer. The model was further trained to choose how to lay out information, when interactive elements are needed and when text is enough. During training, the interfaces it built were evaluated for clarity, usefulness and completeness.

This has an important consequence for the user. The interface elements come from a ready-made library, but what the calculator computes and which options end up in a comparison is decided by the model. OpenAI says directly: "There's still work ahead to improve the model's design judgment and expand what it can create." A clear, visual answer does not by itself mean that the calculation inside is correct.

On the model's reliability, OpenAI writes in the same announcement that GPT-6 is better at recognizing and communicating the limits of its own capabilities, including when it lacks the information or tools needed to answer. The company put the details in a separate document about how the model was tested.

Where it can help a small company

These are my assumptions based on OpenAI's examples, not test results. Try it on your own tasks.

  • Rough estimates where you can change the numbers. For example, the break-even point: how many units of a product to sell per month to cover fixed costs. It needs two figures: fixed costs per month (rent, salaries) and the amount left from each unit sold after variable costs (purchasing, delivery, commission). The break-even point equals the first figure divided by the second.
  • Comparing options. Two telecom plans, three suppliers, two delivery methods: options side by side against the same criteria.
  • Plans and work schedules. Preparing to open a new location, a move, an event for customers: day-by-day steps that can be ticked off.
  • Explaining things to staff. A process diagram with buttons that a newcomer can use to see what happens at each step.

Whatever you use such an answer for, company data is sent to the chatbot in the same way as with an ordinary question. Before pasting real figures, clients or contracts into the conversation, decide what of this can be passed to an external service.

How to check a calculator or comparison from a chatbot

  1. Work out one case by hand and compare. Take numbers for which you know the answer in advance.
    • Example: fixed costs of 300,000 rubles a month, and 500 rubles left from each unit sold after variable costs. Break-even point: 300,000 / 500 = 600 units a month. Enter these numbers into the chatbot's calculator; it should show 600.
    • Who does it: whoever will use the calculation, for example the owner or the accountant.
    • How to check: the calculator's answer matches the manual calculation.
  2. Check extreme values. Enter zero, a very large number, a negative number where there cannot be one. If zero or less is left from each unit after variable costs, there is no break-even point: no matter how much you sell, fixed costs will not be covered. The calculator should show this rather than produce a number.
    • Who does it: the same person.
    • How to check: on zero and on impossible values, the calculator does not give a plausible but wrong answer.
  3. Ask for the formula. Ask ChatGPT to write out in text what formula the calculator uses, and compare it with the one your company uses.
    • Who does it: the accountant or whoever is responsible for the financial model.
    • How to check: the formula in the answer matches yours, including taxes and commissions if you account for them.
  4. In comparisons, check where the figures come from. The model may have taken suppliers' prices, rates and terms from a search or made them up. Open each supplier's website and check at least the lines your choice depends on.
    • Who does it: whoever makes the purchasing decision.
    • How to check: every important figure in the comparison has a link to the supplier's page with the same figure.

If the calculator gets a simple case wrong, in my view it is better not to fix it with requests one error at a time. It is more reliable to calculate in an ordinary spreadsheet, where the whole formula is visible. I wrote more about how to check the results of working with AI in the article Developers and analysts working with AI: how their work differs and how to check the results.

What about availability in Russia

OpenAI's support site has a list of countries and territories from which the company supports access to ChatGPT. As of October 8, 2026, Russia is not on it. The same page says that accessing or offering access to OpenAI's services outside the listed countries "may result in your account being blocked or suspended".

So for a company operating from Russia, the news mainly shows where chatbots are heading: from text to interfaces built around the task. It makes sense to use the feature itself where ChatGPT is officially available to you, for example in a branch in a supported country. I do not cover workarounds.

When you do not need Intelligent UI

If you need the answer as text that you will paste into an email or a document, an interactive interface adds nothing. OpenAI itself writes that in such cases the model can answer with plain text. And if a calculation matters for the company's money, the final version is still worth moving into a spreadsheet, where everyone who works with it can see the formula, rather than keeping it in a conversation with a chatbot.

Summary

On October 7, 2026, OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT: an answer can be a diagram, a chart, a form or a calculator that works right in the conversation. Paid plans got the feature first, the free and Go plans according to plan from October 8, and the Work and Codex modes are not affected by this release. For a small company, it is a convenient way to quickly get a plan, a comparison or a rough estimate. But such an interface is built by the model, so a calculator is checked on numbers with a known answer, and the figures in a comparison against suppliers' websites. And in Russia, the service is not officially supported.
